Dry spell in Uttarakhand post monsoon retrieval
There is drought in Uttarakhand since the departure of monsoon. Most of the areas did not receive any rainfall in the whole of October. In five districts including Dehradun, not even a drop of rain fell in the whole of October. In the remaining districts also, only slight drizzle was recorded.
Due to lack of rain, the weather remained dry and the maximum and minimum temperatures remained above normal. Before this, there was irregular rain in the state during monsoon. At some places heavy rain became a disaster, while at other places one had to be content with light showers. However, in the entire monsoon season, there was 10 percent more rainfall than normal.
Monsoon departed from Uttarakhand in the first week of October. However, even before that the sequence of rains had slowed down. After the departure of monsoon, the weather remained dry in most of the areas of the state and bright sunshine shone from the mountains to the plains. However, in between, clouds camped in the mountainous areas for a few days and light to moderate rainfall was also recorded at some places. But, it proved to be nominal.
In most areas including Dehradun, the maximum and minimum temperatures remained above normal by two to four degrees Celsius throughout the month. Earlier in September, the average rainfall in the state was 283 mm, which is 55 percent more than the normal rainfall of 182 mm. Along with this, 1273 mm rainfall was recorded in the monsoon season as compared to the normal rainfall of 1163 mm. Which was about 10 percent more than normal.
Weather will remain dry for now
The weather remains dry across the state and bright sunshine is shining. However, the chill has started increasing in the morning and evening in the mountainous areas. Cold is also being felt in the morning due to frost in the night in the plains. According to the Director of Meteorological Center, Bikram Singh, the weather is expected to remain dry across the state for the next few days. There may be fog and mist at some places in the plains. There is also a possibility of gradual fall in mercury.
