Electricity rates revised in Uttarakhand, know new tariff for FY 2025-26

Friday has brought another blow of inflation for the people of Uttarakhand. The Energy Department has increased the electricity rates for the financial year 2025-26, which will have a direct impact on the pockets of common consumers. This increase in electricity rates for consumers is expected to increase the problems of middle class families and small businessmen.
According to the new rates, now the rate of electricity up to 100 units has been increased from ₹ 3.40 to ₹ 3.65 per unit. At the same time, consumers will now have to pay ₹ 5.25 per unit instead of ₹ 4.90 for consumption of 101 to 200 units. While earlier ₹ 6.70 per unit had to be paid for consumption of 201 to 400 units of electricity, now this rate has increased to ₹ 7.15. Those consuming more than 400 units will now have to pay ₹ 7.80 per unit instead of ₹ 7.35.

There is resentment among the general public regarding this increase. Consumers say that already the prices of LPG, petrol-diesel and items of daily needs are increasing continuously. In such a situation, increasing the electricity rates is like a double blow to the common man.
Small businessmen have also objected to this decision. They say that the cost of electricity will affect their profits and this will increase the cost of products, which will ultimately affect the customers. Many trade boards have called this increase impractical and have demanded the government to withdraw this decision.
The Energy Department says that revision of rates was necessary for the increasing production cost and strengthening the system. According to the department, the new rates have been implemented after the approval of the State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
