Uttarakhand civic polls 2025: BJP wins 10 out of 11 Mayor seats

In the municipal elections of Uttarakhand, BJP’s triple engine ran fast on the mayor posts of most of the municipal corporations. However, it could not dominate in Nagar Palikas and Nagar Panchayats. In many such bodies, rebels who rebelled and challenged in the election field, gave a tough competition. BJP candidates won mayor seats in ten municipal corporations. Whereas, an independent candidate has won in Srinagar.

BJP had to face defeat in Srinagar Municipal Corporation. There, rebel Aarti Bhandari has been elected mayor by defeating BJP.

BJP has 10 mayors in 11 municipal corporations

Independents dominate in Garhwal’s Nagar Palika, BJP-Congress contest in Panchayats

Independents dominate in Nagar Palikas of five districts of Garhwal. Out of 16 Nagar Palika seats, Independents won 8, while BJP won only 5 and Congress could win only 3. While there was a tough contest between BJP and Congress in the Nagar Panchayat battle. Out of 21 Nagar Panchayat seats, BJP won 9, Congress won 8 and Independents won 4.

Out of four Nagar Palika seats in Chamoli district, BJP won two and Congress won two. While out of six Panchayat seats, Congress won four and Independents won two. Former MLA’s son Ganesh Chandra Shah won the Karnaprayag Palika seat in Chamoli. While Independent Sohanlal won from Pokhri Nagar Panchayat, the home constituency of BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt and Badrinath MLA Lakhpat Butola. While in Rudraprayag district, Independents won the Nagar Palika seat, while out of four Panchayat seats, one was won by Independents, two by BJP and one by Congress candidate.

There are six Nagar Panchayats and four Nagar Palikas in Tehri district. BJP candidates won in five Nagar Panchayats namely Tapovan, Ghansali, Chamiyala, Lambgaon and Kirtinagar, whereas an independent candidate won in Gaja. While independents won in two Nagar Palikas namely New Tehri and Muni Ki Reti, BJP won in Chamba. Whereas BJP has already won unopposed in Devprayag.

Elections are not held in Gangotri Nagar Panchayat among two Nagar Panchayats in Uttarkashi district, an administrator is present here. BJP won in Naugaon. Independents won in four Nagar Palikas namely Barahat, Chinyalisaur, Barkot and Congress won in Purola.

In Pauri, Congress and independents dominated on five seats in seven bodies. Independents won in Nagar Palika Pauri, Dugdda. Congress won in Satpuli Nagar Panchayat and Swargashram Jonk Nagar Panchayat. BJP was elected unopposed in Kirtinagar Nagar Panchayat of Srinagar and Mamta Devi of BJP was elected unopposed in Devprayag Nagar Palika. Congress has won from Thalisain Nagar Panchayat. Meanwhile, independent candidate Aarti Bhandari won the post of mayor in Srinagar Municipal Corporation and BJP’s Shailendra Singh Rawat won in Kotdwar Municipal Corporation.
