Uttarakhand municipal elections: Campaigning to end today, 5405 candidates are in the fray

The election campaign in 100 municipal bodies of the state will stop at 5 pm on Tuesday. The fate of 72 mayor candidates in 11 municipal corporations and 445 president candidates in Nagar Palika and Nagar Panchayats will be decided on January 23. On Wednesday, candidates will be able to do only door-to-door campaigning.
State Election Commissioner Sushil Kumar said that the noise of election campaign will stop from 5 pm on January 21, exactly 48 hours before the polling. After this, candidates will be able to campaign only by going door to door.
He said that 30,29,000 voters will exercise their franchise in 100 bodies. 1515 polling centers and 3394 polling stations have been set up. The first phase of training of personnel for the election has been completed.
The second phase of training will be completed by Tuesday. 16,284 personnel and 25,800 security personnel have been deployed for polling. 846 light and 572 heavy vehicles have been deployed for the transportation of polling parties. Polling parties will leave on Wednesday. A control room has been set up for the elections. Any kind of negligence will not be tolerated.
5405 candidates in the fray
The fate of 5405 candidates across the state will be sealed in ballot boxes on January 23. 72 candidates are in the fray for the post of mayor in 11 municipal corporations. 445 candidates are in the fray for the post of president in 89 Nagar Palikas and Nagar Panchayats and 4888 candidates are in the fray for the posts of councilor-ward member in all the bodies.
