IIT Roorkee gets first rank in CII’s most innovative research institution category

This year IIT Roorkee has been ranked first in the Most Innovative Research Institutions category by the Confederation of Indian Industry. This is the second time the institution has topped the series of awards in this category. Second prize went to IIT Madras and third place went to Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services, Hyderabad.

The awards were announced on Monday at the 27th DST-CII Technology Summit in the presence of Dr. Srivari Chandrasekhar, Secretary, DST, Government of India and Krishna Gopalakrishnan, former President, CII and President, CII Industrial Innovation Awards.

On this occasion, Secretary DST Dr. Srivari Chandrashekhar said that innovation is necessary to bring industrial revolution and exciting future in the country. Everyone has to pay attention towards innovation. He said that even today India is counted in the agricultural country. 65 percent of the total population is dependent on the agriculture sector. Hence there is a need to bring innovative solutions for the upliftment of this sector for better life and health of the citizens. He said that industries also have to take initiative to make innovations successful.

Krishna Gopalakrishnan, President, CII Industrial Innovation Awards said that along with entrepreneurship, the focus has to be on innovation and research, innovation and entrepreneurship. Then the target of 10 trillion economy can be achieved. On receipt of the award, the director of the institute, Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi said that this award establishes that high quality teaching in the institute promotes innovation along with work. Efforts will be made by the institute to do better.
