Valley of flowers to open for tourists from today

UNESCO World Heritage Valley of Flowers is going to open for tourists from Wednesday. The tourism department has completed the preparations. All the needs of the tourists will be taken care of.

The Valley of Flowers, which houses more than 300 species of flowers, will welcome tourists from Wednesday. Secretary Tourism Dilip Jawalkar said that all the preparations have been completed at the departmental level. He said that this valley is spread over an area of ​​87.5 square kilometers at an altitude of 3962 meters above sea level. The Valley of Flowers comes under the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve. The place is dotted with some colorful and incredible flowers like marigolds and orchids. Apart from this, a good number of birds, butterflies and animals can also be seen in this area.

The Valley of Flowers will be open for tourists from June 1 to October for the 2022 season. The entire valley is rich in rare and exotic Himalayan flora. More than 300 species of flowers are found here, including anemones, geraniums, primulus, blue poppy and bluebells. The most beautiful flower to see here is the Brahma Kamal, also known as the state flower of Uttarakhand. According to the tourism secretary, the Valley of Flowers was an accidental discovery in 1931 by the British mountaineer and botanist, Frank S. Smith. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.
