Movement stopped on Ram Jhula in Rishikesh due to rain damage

Vehicular movement has been stopped on the Ram Jhula bridge, which is a major center of attraction in Rishikesh for the tourists of the country and the world. Due to heavy rains, the abutment under the bridge in Munikireti area has been washed away. This damage has happened due to the spate of Ganga. In view of the safety of the tourists, on the instructions of SDM Narendranagar Devendra Singh Negi, the police have barricaded traffic on the suspension bridge.

The SDM said that the safety of the tourists is a priority. PWD team has been sent to Ram Jhula for inspection. On the basis of the inspection report, a decision will be taken regarding the movement on Jhula Pul.

The administration said that due to the rains in the state, the river Ganga rose above the danger mark. The water level of the river in Rishikesh is increasing rapidly. SDRF teams have been deployed as a precautionary measure. Tourists and locals have been appealed not to venture into unsafe areas around the river. The pressure on Janki bridge may increase due to ban on movement on Ram Jhula bridge, although arrangements are also being made for this that only a limited number of people should move on the bridge at a time.
