Glacial burst reported in Chamoli near India-China border

In the Malari Valley of Chamoli district, a glacial burst has been reported near the China border. Road construction work is going on in the area. At present, nothing has been known about the damage. A team of Border Roads Organization (BRO) from Joshimath has left for the spot. Due to the incessant rain and snowfall, the team may take time to reach here. There is no population in this area and only the movement of the army is in the region.

The incident is about 90 km from Joshimath in a place called Sumna. The last outpost at the border Barahoti is reached through this place. Being a remote area, it does not even have a communication network. Chamoli District Disaster Management Officer Nandkishore Joshi said that the team under the leadership of BRO commander Manish Kapil has gone for the spot. He informed that road construction work is going on in that area. He said that the area has been experiencing intermittent snow for a week, while the snow has been falling continuously for two days. It is natural to take time in this situation.

Removal of debris stopped in Tapovan

The water level of Rishiganga and Dhauliganga has been rising due to the ongoing rains and snowfall for the last two days. This has affected the people of six villages along with Tapovan and Raini. The debris removal work has been stopped in Tapovan during the rains. Significantly, on February 7, many people went missing in the surge in Rishiganga.
