Farmer who had received Rs 9 crore compensation in NH-74 surrenders

Lalpur farmer Dilbag Singh, who had wrongly received more than nine crore compensation in NH 74 construction, surrendered before the special court in Nainital on Tuesday. He had escaped to Canada after seeing continuous action in the scam. He had returned home few days ago. Meanwhile, considering the pressure of the SIT, he thought it was better to surrender.

In the year 2017, after the NH-74 compensation scam surfaced, a case was registered in SIIDCUL police station. After this SIT was constituted and investigation started. During this time the scam worth over Rs 211 crore was confirmed. It was learned that the farmers took compensation of crores by collating with the officers and employees by forging the documents in back date. The SIT then commenced arrest. In almost a year of action, the SIT has arrested more than 28 officers, employees, builders and farmers. Apart from this, five farmers also surrendered in Nainital Court. In the same order, Dilbag Singh, a resident of Lalpur village, also surrendered in the special court Nainital on Tuesday.

Dilbag Singh had taken a compensation of over Rs 9 crore in NH-74. Meanwhile, when SIT started arrest, he escaped to Canada. Here, he came back and surrendered in court on Tuesday under pressure.
