Draft of UCC is ready, will be presented in assembly session: CM Dhami

The draft of the committee constituted to implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state has been prepared. After getting approval from the government, it will be presented in the assembly session. After this, Uttarakhand will become the first state in the country to have a Uniform Civil Code. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that there will be no harm to any particular community in the Uniform Civil Code.

Talking to the media, Chief Minister Dhami said that he had promised the people of the state to implement the Uniform Civil Code. Steps are being taken in this direction as per public expectations.

CM Dhami said that ‘efforts have been made to ensure that there is a uniform law for everyone in the state irrespective of any creed, community, religion, caste. It is our responsibility to see that the basic form of the state does not deteriorate.’ The Chief Minister said that soon Uttarakhand would become the first state in the country to implement Uniform Civil Code. The outlook of the general public is positive on this subject.

Suggestions of more than two lakh people

The committee formed to implement the Uniform Civil Code took suggestions and views of more than two lakh people in a year and a half. The draft committee constituted under the chairmanship of retired Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai has prepared the draft after talking to the major stakeholders of every class, every community, every caste in the state. As soon as the draft is received, it will be presented in the assembly and implemented. The Chief Minister said that ‘our state shares two international borders. It is the center of religion, spirituality and culture.’
