Snowfall at Chamoli, uttarkashi and Pithoragarh increases new year revelry

As revellers started their celebrations on New Year Eve, snowfall in high-altitude places in the state caused mercury level to drop further adding to the festive mood.

According to Met reports, higher reaches in Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Pithoragarh district received snowfall on Saturday owing to western disturbance and cyclonic circulation over the lower atmosphere. Inclement weather conditions prevailed over other parts of Uttarakhand as well.

Places located above 3000 metres and above will receive snowfall on Sunday as well according to earlier predictions. The change in the weather is also likely lower the mercury levels by at least 5-6 degrees Celsius across the state. Moreover, a strong western disturbance is expected to hit the state between January 3-7 which will result in moderate-to-heavy snowfall over hills in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, according to forecast.
