Tanakpur-Bageshwar rail line survey gets rail ministry approval

Ministry of Railways has approved the final location survey of Tanakpur-Bageshwar new broad gauge rail line. On this, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnav.

The Tanakpur-Bageshwar rail line is of 154.58 kms. Recently, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had met the Union Railway Minister regarding this. The ministry has approved a budget of Rs 28 crore 95 lakh for its final location survey. Chief Minister Dhami said that developmental activities in the area would increase with the construction of the railway line.

People will get a lot of convenience. The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a special attachment to Uttarakhand. During his tenure, many development works have been done in the state. Especially in the area of ​​connectivity, historical works have been done or are going on in Chardham Road Project, Rishikesh Karnprayag Rail Project, Air Connectivity. This will bring revolutionary changes in the economy of the state in the coming times.

Tanakpur-Bageshwar railway line stuck in survey for a century

Bageshwar railway line has been entangled in the survey for 109 years. Over a century long period, Bageshwar and Champawat separated from Pithoragarh on 24 February 1960 and on 15 September 1997 separated from Almora to become districts but even after 109 years, the railway line remains a dream. This proposed railway line of strategic importance connecting the three districts has remained stuck till the survey. For the second time in November 2020, the Ministry of Railways conducted a survey for the railway line.

In the year 1911-12, the British government had surveyed the Tanakpur-Bageshwar railway line. The British were preparing the blueprint for the construction of the railway line that the flame of independence started to flare up. The British could not reach Bageshwar by train. After the independence of the country, the people of Bageshwar started raising the demand for the construction of the railway line. This demand grew in the 80s. People from Bageshwar to Pithoragarh, Champawat area started mobilizing for the demand of railway line construction.
