Irrigation Department JE in Bageshwar gets 10 year prison for raping woman on pretext of marriage

In the case of having physical relations with a woman on the pretext of marriage, Additional Sessions Judge has given a 10 years rigorous imprisonment sentence to the junior engineer of irrigation department in Bageshwar district. There is also a penalty of 20 thousand rupees. The Additional Sessions Judge reserved the decision till Monday, pronouncing the accused guilty on September 6 .

A young woman filed a report in the Kapkot police station on September 5, 2017 against the Irrigation Department’s JE Devendra Singh Khechiyal. In her complaint the woman had said that the JE made physical relations with her for 3 years promising to marry her. A year ago when the woman discovered she was pregnant, then the accused managed to convince her for an abortion. The police filed the case. The case was in court for a year. On September 6, Additional Sessions Judge Shamsher Ali had found JE guilty on the basis of arguments and evidence of both sides. He had reserved the verdict against the accused till Monday. On Monday, the Additional Sessions Judge punished JE Devendra Singh Khechiyal with a ten year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 20 thousand rupees while pronouncing the verdict. District prosecutor Abid Hassan and assistant government advocate Chanchal Singh Papola lent support to the prosecution.
