Snowfall in the hills intensifies cold in the plains
The weather has changed in Uttarakhand. The process of snowfall in the mountains and rain in the low-lying areas has started. With the change of weather, it started to get cold in the midst of cold winds. According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall may continue in the state for the next two days. A warning has been issued in some areas regarding cold wave.
On Tuesday, there was a cloud cover from the mountain to the plain in Uttarakhand since morning. There was heavy snowfall in the evening on Chardham and higher peaks. At the same time, the whole of Uttarakhand came under the grip of severe cold due to rain in the low-lying areas. Tourists at other tourist places including Auli were seen enjoying snowfall despite the cold. Snowfall occurred in high altitude areas including Kedarnath, Tungnath, Madhyameshwar, Chandrashila, Deoriatal, Chopta. Heavy snowfall started in Kedarnath since morning, which continued till late evening.
In Chamoli, it snowed intermittently in the afternoon in Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, Valley of Flowers, Niti & Mana Valley. The surrounding peaks including Nanda Devi, Neelkanth, Satopanth, Hathi Ghodi Palki were covered with snow. Apart from Gangotri and Yamunotri, Harshil Valley also received heavy snowfall, while Uttarkashi and adjoining areas received rain. On the other hand, snowfall occurred in Pindari, the high Himalayan peak of Bageshwar district of Kumaon. In Nainital, there is a possibility of snow again till night due to cloud cover in the afternoon. In Pithoragarh district, there has been snowfall on the high peaks like Hansling, Rajrambha, Panchachuli etc.
Chills increased after rain in Doon-Mussoorie
Light drizzle continued throughout the day in the surrounding areas including Doon-Mussoorie. Moderate rain occurred in many areas in the evening. Snowfall is expected in Mussoorie and adjoining areas late night. According to the Meteorological Center, there may be snowfall and rain in low-lying areas in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh on Wednesday. Cold wave conditions may occur in the plains. A yellow alert has been issued regarding this.
