6.1 magnitude earthquake measured on Richter scale

Earthquake tremors were felt in the NCR and surrounding areas including Delhi on Saturday evening. The intensity of this earthquake was recorded 6.1 on Richter scale. There have been no reports of casualtiesso far. At the same time, earthquake tremors were felt in Poonch district of Jammu division. According to Indian time, this earthquake occurred on Saturday evening at 5:34. In the initial information, the center of the earthquake is being described as the Hinduukush mountain area. These Hindu Kush mountain ranges extend from central Afghanistan to northern Pakistan.

Significantly, according to a report, about 38 cities in the country come under the High Risk Sismic Zone. Whereas, 60% of the terrains are earthquake prone. According to the Bureau of Indian Standards, most of the construction in India has not been done keeping earthquake in mind. However, in some of its exceptions, Delhi Metro could cope with earthquake shocks.

The higher the magnitude of earthquake on the Richter Scale, the more vibrations are feels. In a 2.9-Richter scale earthquake, there is a slight vibration when the earthquake occurs. At the same time, if a 7.9 Richter Scale tremor hits then buildings collapse. The full name of ‘Richter Scale’ is the Richter Magnitude Test Scale.

Zone 5 is considered to be the most dangerous in terms of earthquake. Also in Delhi, Patna, Srinagar, Kohima, Guwahati, Gangtok, Shimla, Dehradun, Imphal and Chandigarh, Ambala, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Roorkee come to Seismic Zone 4 and 5. Some areas of Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, North Bihar and Andaman-Nicobar are in Zone-5.
