Cyclone Idai wrecks havoc in Zimbabwe

At least 31 people have died in the cyclone ‘Idai’ on Friday in eastern Zimbabwe and dozens of people are missing. The Zimbabwe government has given this information on Saturday. More than 1.5 million people have been affected by this cyclone.

Zimbabwe’s Information Ministry tweeted that most of the deaths occurred in Chimaimani. Zimbabwe’s Civil Defense Department has said, so far more than 100 people have been reported missing. During the storm, many houses were damaged in the Manikland province, which ranged from the Mozambique border and many bridges were lost. President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who has gone on a visit to Abu Dhabi, has declared the state of disaster in the affected areas.

Neighboring country of Zimbabwe, at least 19 people died due to tropical cyclone ‘Idai’, which occurred on Friday in central Mozambique, and the contact with the city of Beira was broken with the rest of the country.

According to Radio Mozambique, most of the deaths have occurred in Beira city of Sofhala province. While more than 70 others have been injured. Due to the cyclone, the power is lost in the Beira. The airport also closed and the flood water was submerged the roads.
