Russia, China Veto US proposal for Venezuela crisis

Russia and China used their veto power in the United Nations Security Council against the US resolution to deal with the Venezuelan crisis. Despite this, Moscow’s proposal to the Council also did not get enough votes.

In the American proposal, it was said that Venezuela had to hold elections for president and provide humanitarian assistance without interruption. This proposal got nine votes in the 15-member council, while Moscow and Beijing used veto against it.

At the same time Russia’s proposal had appealed to settlement of the matter through peaceful mediums. It was emphasized in the context of Maduro’s government that all humanitarian aid was given. This proposal received only four votes.
