No entry of vehicles in inner Connaught Circle on Sunday and Monday

Inner Circle of Connaught Place (CP) of Delhi will not have entry of cars on Sundays and Mondays. In the evening from 5 am to 10 pm, there will be restrictions on the arrival of vehicles. NDMC is going to take this step to curb pollution and facilitate pedestrians. This decision will be implemented from the coming Sunday (June 30).

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) had earlier decided to impose the ban on Saturday and Sunday. But after traders protest it was done on Sunday and Monday. Merchants said that this move will affect their business. NDMC had made such a plan three years ago.

But then it could not be implemented due to opposition from the trading organizations. Traders protested this time also. The scheme of NDMC will be prepared in a day or two and this is being done to implement it from June 30. The historical market of Connaught Place is more than 80 years old and every day about five million people visit there.

It is being told that if this experiment is successful then Connaught Place will be made completely free of vehicular traffic. Apart from this, parking facilities will be provided for those coming to the CP. Electric vehicles can also be used to bring them from the parking lot to the CP. The Connaught Place market is based in 12 different blocks. There are two circles (inner and outer) in it.

About three years ago, the Inner Circle of CP was initiated to make it vehicle free. After the order of the Union Urban Development Ministry, NDMC had also started its efforts. But business organizations protested strongly and the plan went into cold storage. It is being told that this scheme is being trials and if it is successful, then complete Connaught Place will be free of problems of parking and vehicular traffic.
