Schools to remain closed in Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi after heavy rain alert

Heavy rain alert has been issued in seven districts of Uttarakhand for the next two days. According to the weather center, moderate to heavy rains may occur in Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Pauri, Dehradun, Pithoragarh and Nainital. Due to this, DM in Rudraprayag district has declared a holiday in all schools from one to 12 class on Monday. At the same time, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) team was busy all night to open the Gangotri route. The highway could be used for traffic at around three o’clock in the morning. The Yamunotri route, was disrupted for about two hours in the morning.

 

Gangotri Highway was closed at around 7 pm on Saturday evening due to landslide near Thirang, about 40 km from Uttarkashi district headquarters. A large amount of boulder and debris had accumulated on the highway here. Since then, the BRO team had gathered to clean it.The highway opened at around 3 am. Since then, there is movement of vehicles here. DM Uttarkashi too has given orders to close all publi.c and private schools on 5th August

On Sunday morning, Yamunotri highway was closed at Dabarkot. Due to this, a large number of passengers were stranded here. After about two hours the highway was reopened. On the other hand, on Uttarkashi Suvakholi Dehradun road, late Saturday an out of control sand dumper overturned  blocking the route for around 14 hours. Due to this, tourists traveling from Uttarkashi to Dehradun and Dehradun to Uttarkashi faced trouble till Sunday afternoon.

The Badrinath highway was disrupted for nearly two and a half hours as the water level in Kanchanganga rose. At 6 o’clock in the morning, suddenly there was a sudden rise in the water level, the wreckage was on the highway. The traffic could be smooth by removing it at about eight a.m.
