CBSE to make pending 12th class Exams optional for students

CBSE Class 10 examinations scheduled between July 1-15 have been canceled. During the hearing in the Supreme Court on Thursday, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta gave this information to the court. These exams were to be held from July 1 to July 15. The exams of class X have been completely canceled, while the exams of class XII will be conducted when the conditions are normal.

Students of class 12 will be given the option to either agree to take the marks on the basis of internal assessment or to appear in the examination when the environment is suitable. Delhi, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu expressed complete inability to conduct examinations. ICSE also canceled the exams of class X and XII.

Due to the Corona crisis, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking to quash the remaining examinations of CBSE class 10th and 12th board. In the hearing on Tuesday, the Central Government and the Board had told the Supreme Court that a decision will be taken in this regard by Wednesday evening. Subsequently, the Supreme Court deferred the hearing for Thursday.

In the last hearing, a sealed report was filed in this regard by the CBSE board in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had asked the government to take a decision on the examinations of CBSE as well as ICSE. Significantly, during the board examinations this year, the lockdown started due to Corona, due to which the board examinations were stopped midway. A petition was filed against the decision of the board to conduct remaining CBSE board examination in the Supreme Court, in which the Supreme Court sought a response from the board.

The petition demanded cancellation of the remaining examinations of this year’s board. It was said that the result of CBSE Board students should be declared on the basis of internal assessment. The petition said that according to AIIMS data, the coronavirus will be at its peak in India in the coming time, in such a situation the examinations should be canceled. The petition said that the number of infected in India has reached close to 3 lakhs, conducting examinations can be extremely risky.

In a meeting with the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the Board officials had said that it is easy to prepare the result from the assessment of class X, but in case of class XII, there will be difficulty in preparing the result in this way because admission in engineering, medical institutes and other prestigious institutes takes place on the basis of class 12 merit list. Many promising students could draw the short straw in the internal assessment of the school. There are many students who pay full attention to the preparation of board exams and do not spend much time on their school exams as they are busy preparing for finals and do not pay attention to class tests. Apart from this, in the coaching center, lakhs of students who are preparing for engineering and medical are enrolled in the school, but do not give class tests. In such a situation, the assessment of these students will be difficult.
