Sanju Samson named Rajasthan Royals skipper for 2021 season

Rajasthan Royals (RR) has made a big change in the team before the IPL auction. The team has made Sanju Samson as the captain of the team, replacing Steve Smith. Under Smith’s captaincy, Rajasthan Royals finished last in the last IPL played in the UAE. Smith played all 14 league matches and scored 311 runs. His captaincy was severely criticized for the team’s poor performance.

Rajasthan Royals tweeted from their official handle and announced to make Sanju Samson the new captain of Rajasthan Royals. They also announced the release of Steve Smith. Kumar Sangakkara has been appointed Director of Operations of Rajasthan Royals. A source in the team said, “Smith’s agreement was till October 2020. Which was not extended. “Prior to IPL 2018, the Royals had only retained Smith in the team and had signed a deal of Rs 12.5 crore. He was also made the captain, but had to quit after the ball tampering controversy in South Africa. Smith could not perform well in the recent series against India in Australia.

Under the leadership of Steve Smith, RR was the last in IPL 2020 last season. The team played 14 league matches out of which it won 6 matches and suffered losses in 8 matches. This team had a total of 12 points and was at the last rung in the points table. Speaking of Steam Smith’s batting, he scored 311 runs in 14 matches this season at an average of 25.91 which included two fifties. His best score in the 13th season of IPL was 69 and his strike rate was 131.22.
