Denmark approves plan to build artificial island

Denmark wary of rising sea levels

Denmark’s parliament has approved a project to build an artificial island to protect the port of Copenhagen from rising sea levels. Denmark named the island Lynetteholm. There is accommodation for about 35,000 people here. The government plans to connect the vast island to the mainland of Denmark through ring roads, tunnels and metro lines.

What is the specialty of the island

The size of this island of Denmark will be one square mile i.e. 2.6 square kilometers. The Danish government says that work on the project will begin by the end of this year. According to the developers of this project from Denmark, a dam system will be built around this new island. Its purpose is to protect the port from rising sea levels and storm surges. The government claims that if this plan is fully implemented, most of its foundation will be ready by the year 2035. By the year 2070, this island will be completely ready.

Demonstration against construction of artificial island

Denmark’s parliament on Friday approved the construction of this artificial island. In Parliament, 85 MPs voted in favor of the bill and 12 against it. However, when the bill was passed in Parliament, there was a massive protest against the island outside the Parliament House in the capital Copenhagen. The protesters were opposing this bill. They demanded from the government that the government should reconsider this project. Protesters expressed concern that Copenhagen would face different conditions during the construction of the island.

Scientists also expressed concern

Scientists have also expressed concern about this island of Denmark. Scientists are also worried about the rising sea level. Along with this, they said that during the construction of the island, heavy lorries will pass through the capital Copenhagen and the people living here will have to deal with environmental pollution.
