First monsoon showers of the season disrupt life in the hills

With the onset of monsoon, once again it has been highlighted the eco sensitive nature of the hilly districts. From Chamoli to Pithoragarh, the rain has wreaked havoc. In Bageshwar, where the movement of 18 rural roads has completely stopped. Here the drivers were stuck on the road for 3 hours due to the falling of trees on Kausani Road. Power lines have suffered heavy damage due to landslides and falling trees. Electricity system has come to a standstill across the district. Here a huge pine tree fell on a shop in Malta. Thankfully, no one was present on the spot at the time of the incident, otherwise a big accident would have happened. The Gomti and Saryu rivers are overflowing due to rain. It has been raining continuously for 9 hours, due to which landslides have also occurred in many places. The energy corporation had to take a shutdown due to trees falling on poles and wires. Due to which the power supply was disrupted for hours in the entire district. Around 18 roads including Kapkot-Karmi, Dhapoli-Jethai, Kausani Bhatedia, Mathuro-Patli and Sirloni-Lohagarhi are closed here.

Same is the case with Pithoragarh district. Here the Kali river is flowing above the danger mark. On Friday, the water level of the river reached near 889.60 meters from the warning level of 889.00 meters. In view of the danger, the District Magistrate has asked the concerned officials to remain alert. He directed the officials to shift the people living in the villages and buildings coming under threat to safer places. Movement on river banks and bridges has been restricted. The DM said that similarly the water level of Gori river and Ramganga river is also being monitored. Instructions have been given to inform people through loudspeakers and take protective action when the water level rises. Today there is a possibility of heavy rain in the districts like Pithoragarh, Nainital, Champawat, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Almora and Udhamsinghnagar of the state. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for these districts.
