India bag gold in Archery World Cup

Indian women’s recurve team created golden history in the ongoing Archery World Cup in Paris. The Indian women’s recurve team comprising of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari won the gold medal by defeating Mexico in the final of the third leg of the Archery World Cup on Sunday.

The Indian trio took some of the disappointment away of a first-round loss in the last qualifier of the Olympics earlier this month with their title win. Their 5-1 win gave India its second gold medal in the third leg of the World Cup. Earlier on Saturday, Abhishek Verma won India’s first gold medal in the compound individual event.

The Indian recurve women’s team won the gold medal by defeating Mexico 5-1 in the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Paris on Sunday. The Paris World Cup is the last global event before the Tokyo Olympic Games to be held from 23 July–8 August. On their way to the final, India defeated France 6–2 in the semi-finals and 6–0 over Turkey in the quarter-finals. Last weekend, Indian women’s recurve archery did not live up to expectations and the women’s team for the Olympics missed out on a quota place. India lost 0-6 to Colombia in the first match to be knocked out of the Olympic qualification tournament.
