Rains break over 100 year old record in Delhi

Due to the activation of Western Disturbance, the rain of the last two days has set a new record in Delhi. Till Sunday morning, 88.2 mm of rain has been recorded, which is the highest in January in the last 122 years. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert from Monday, predicting the possibility of severe cold for a week. However, in the meantime the capital will get relief from rain.

According to the Meteorological Department, 69.8 mm of rain was recorded in Delhi till 8.30 pm a day earlier, which was the highest rainfall in January in the last 32 years. However, the rain continued throughout the night on Saturday, which stopped in the morning. Meanwhile, 19.7 mm of rain was recorded till 8.30 am, after which the rain figure reached 88.2 mm, breaking the earlier record. On the other hand, a record of 110 mm of rain has been recorded in Palam alone so far.

Clouds remained throughout the day, day temperature dropped

Even after the rain stopped on Sunday morning, people did not get relief from the cold. The sun could not be seen due to cloudy cover. Due to this the day temperature dropped by six degrees Celsius to 14.9 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the maximum temperature was recorded at 10.5 degrees Celsius, three above normal. Due to the cold day of the season, people kept shivering. To avoid the cold, people resorted to warm clothes as well as heaters and bonfires. In the last 24 hours, the humidity level in the air was recorded in the range of 78 to 100 percent. At the same time, due to the cold winds in the evening, the winter season had increased the difficulties of the people.

Yellow alert from Monday, it will be cold for a whole week

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in the capital from Monday, expressing the possibility of severe cold conditions. According to the department, the maximum temperature is 16 and the minimum temperature can drop rapidly to 7 degree Celsius. There is also a possibility of moderate to cloudy sky during the morning hours. At the same time, due to the drop in maximum and minimum temperature, cold day conditions can also be recorded in different areas of Delhi.

According to the forecast of the department, the minimum temperature will drop by seven to six degrees Celsius for the next six days. Also, due to the icy winds coming from the Himalayas, there is a possibility of severe winter. When the minimum temperature in the plains is less than 10 and the maximum temperature is four and a half degrees Celsius below normal, then a cold day is declared.
