Historic Purnagiri fair opens for devotees after two year gap

The famous Maa Poornagiri fair of North India has started. Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat inaugurated the fair by cutting the ribbon at Thuligad, the entrance gate. More than 40 thousand devotees visited the temple on the first day. The fair will go on for three months. On the first day, women took out the Kalash Yatra in Thuligad.

The commissioner said that Purnagiri fair should be given the status of a state fair in view of the number of devotees reaching here. For this, along with taking initiative on his behalf, DM has been asked to send a proposal. The DM said that the fair would be given a grand look.

Maa Poornagiri fair has a special significance. It is considered to be the biggest fair of North India. A large number of devotees also reach here from UP-Bihar. It is said that part of the navel of Goddess Sati fell at this place. One of the Shaktipeeths, there is a belief about this Shaktipeeth that the wishes of the devotees who come here are fulfilled.

The influx of devotees in the historic Purnagiri Dham saw hustle and bustle throughout the day. Due to Corona, the main fair could run for only seven days in 2020 and only 17 days in 2021. In the last two years, the traders of Tanakpur, dependent on the Purnagiri fair, had to bear the loss of lakhs. But this time after the situation of Corona becomes normal, the fair administration has decided to organize the main fair with a duration of three months.
