Paavo Nurmi Games 2022: Neeraj Chopra breaks own national record

Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra took to the field for the first time since the Tokyo Games. In the Paavo Nurmi Games held in Finland, Neeraj threw 89.30 meters and created a national record by giving a personal best. However, he missed out on the gold. He had to be content with silver. Oliver Helander of Finland won the gold with a throw of 89.83m and Anderson Peters of Granada won the bronze with a throw of 84.65m. Neeraj Chopra bettered his national record of 87.58m, which he had achieved during the Tokyo Olympics.

Targets 90 meters

Neeraj had said in an interview this year that he is aiming to cross 90 meters. He is trying to achieve the target of 90 meters before the World Championships, so that he can be included in the list of world’s top throwers. Neeraj has to participate in the World Athletics Championships to be held in America from July 15 to 24. Prior to that, on June 30, he will also take part in the top-level Diamond League competition in Stockholm. He is currently practicing at the Kuortane Olympic Training Center in Finland and will be there till June 22.

Now the next target is the World Championship and Commonwealth Games

Now the next target of Neeraj is to win a medal in the World Championship and Commonwealth Games. The World Championships are in the US from July 15 to 24. At the same time, the Commonwealth Games are to be held in Birmingham from 28 July to 8 August. Neeraj, after winning gold in the Tokyo Olympic Games, said that his next goal is to win gold in the Commonwealth and World Championships for the country.
