Nancy Pelosi reaches Taiwan amidst China warnings
On Tuesday evening, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the US Parliament, Nancy Pelosi’s plane reached Taiwan after repeated warnings from China. In view of warnings from China on Pelosi’s visit, the airport was kept dark for security reasons. After her arrival in Taiwan, China has called it a provocative action. China has said that America will have to face dire consequences for this.
She has tweeted about her Taiwan visit. In it, she wrote that by visiting Taiwan, we honor our commitment to democracy. Reaffirming that Taiwan’s independence and all democracies must be respected.
Pelosi wrote in another tweet that ‘Our delegation’s visit to Taiwan honors America’s unwavering commitment to supporting Taiwan’s vibrant democracy. Our discussions with Taiwan’s leadership reaffirm our support for our partner and promote our shared interests, including advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
