PM Modi lays foundation stone for Hemkund Sahib ropeway project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Hemkund Sahib ropeway during the program in Mana. It will be among the highest and longest ropeway in the world. Now there will be no problem of walking on the difficult trek of Hemkund Sahib. Hemkund Sahib is situated at an altitude of 15200 feet. This is a gurdwara situated on the highest peak in the world where lakhs of devotees come to pay their respects.

The doors here are open for devotees only for five months in a year. The length of the ropeway to be built from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib will be 12.4 km. The Hemkund ropeway will connect Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib. It will be around 12.4 km long and will reduce the travel time from more than a day to only about 45 mins. This ropeway will also connect Ghangaria, which is the gateway to Valley of Flowers National Park, said the PMO statement.

Journey will be completed in 45 minutes

With the construction of a ropeway from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib, the journey will be completed in just 45 minutes. At present, to visit Hemkund Sahib, about 19 km of trek has to be climbed. For which the devotees have to stop at Ghangaria on the first day and then visit Hemkund Sahib on the next day and come to Ghangaria for night rest. Next day return to Govindghat. Due to the construction of ropeway, devotees will reach Hemkund Sahib from Govindghat in just 45 minutes while the cost will be around Rs 1100.
