Uttarkashi jolted by 2.5 magnitude Earthquake

There was a light intensity earthquake in Uttarkashi district headquarters and surrounding areas on Sunday morning. On Sunday morning at 10:43 a.m. the earthquake struck the hill district. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 2.5 on the Richter scale. According to information received from the District Disaster Management Center, the epicenter of the earthquake was five km below the ground in the forests of village Nald in the Badahat range.

Here, Tehsildar Barkot Shishpal Singh Aswal said that no tremors were felt in Tehsil Barkot, Purola, Mori area. At the same time, the tremors of the earthquake brought back memories of the devastating 1991 earthquake in the month of October itself.

Earler, on July 22 also, tremors of earthquake were felt thrice in Uttarkashi. The earthquake’s tremor had a magnitude of 3.6 on the Reactor scale.
