Primary schools in Delhi to be closed for 2 days due to rising pollution

In view of the increasing pollution in Delhi-NCR, now Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has taken a big decision. All government and private primary schools of Delhi have been closed for 2 days. At present, more than three and a half times more pollutant particles are present in the air of Delhi. According to the standards, the air is considered healthy only if the level of PM 10 is less than 100 and the level of PM 2.5 is less than 60. Whereas, at 4 pm on Thursday, the level of PM 10 was 358 micrograms per cubic meter and the level of PM 2.5 was 197 micrograms per cubic meter. In this way it is more than three and a half times the normal.

Thirteen places in the capital Delhi have been identified as pollution hot spots. Many measures are taken here to prevent pollution. But, the pollution situation here shows that these measures have not had much impact. On Thursday, the index of 12 areas of Delhi remained above 400 i.e. in serious category. Of these, there are ten areas which are hot spots of pollution. These include Anand Vihar, Bawana, Mundka, Wazirpur, Narela, Rohini, Jahangirpuri, Dwarka-8, Punjabi Bagh and RK Puram. Whereas, there are two areas New Moti Bagh and Najafgarh which are not included in the pollution hot spots but the index here has also reached above 400.

Air in very poor category for last six days

Actually, the air of Delhi was in poor category since October 21. On October 21, the air quality had crossed 200. But, in this also the last six days have been the worst. On October 28, Delhi’s air quality index crossed 300 i.e. reached the very poor category. Since then, there has been a continuous increase in pollutant particles in the air. Thursday is the sixth day when the air quality index has crossed 300.

There is no hope of relief for the people of Delhi from the polluted air. According to the Air Quality Early Warning System, the wind speed is generally expected to be less than ten kilometers per hour in the next two-three days. Due to this, the dispersion of pollutant particles will be slow. Due to this, the air quality is likely to remain in very poor or severe category.
