Powerful Earthquake of 7.5 magnitude strikes Philippines
An earthquake occurred in Midanao, Philippines on Saturday (December 2), due to which a tsunami warning has been issued. According to the National Center for Seismology, this earthquake occurred at 8:07 pm. Its center was at a depth of 50 kilometers in the ground.
According to the report of news agency Reuters, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported the intensity of this earthquake as 7.5 and its epicenter at a depth of 63 kilometers. According to the report, the American Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami warning after the earthquake.
There is a possibility of tsunami in Philippines and Japan. Japanese broadcaster NHK said tsunami waves up to one meter (3 feet) high could reach Japan’s west coast a little later – at 1:30 a.m. (1630 GMT Saturday).
Eight people lost their lives in last month’s earthquake
Earlier last month, a 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippines, killing eight people, Reuters reported. Generally an intensity of 7 or more on the Richter scale is considered more dangerous than normal. An update is yet to come regarding the damage caused by this earthquake in the Philippines.
