Govt invites suggestions for tenancy act in Uttarakhand

The government will soon implement the Model Tenancy Act (MTA) to make the tenancy sector as a formal market balanced and equitable in Uttarakhand. The state government has adopted the Model Tenancy Act of the Center. Suggestions and objections have been sought by the Urban Development Department from the people till October 31 on this act.

In order to end the quarrels between the landlord and the tenants, the Central Government has prepared the Model Tenancy Act. There will be a written contract between the landlord and the tenant and the rent will be fixed only with the consent.

In the act, different responsibility has been fixed for the painting of the house, from electrical wiring, switch board, water tap fixing etc. This will not cause any dispute between the landlord and the tenant.

After enactment of the Act, landlords will not be able to increase the rent on their own. Disputes and complaints related to rent will not be filed in civil court. The cases will be heard in the Rental Authority and the Court.

Kamlesh Mehta, Joint Director, Urban Development Department, says that the MTA Act has been uploaded on the website of the Directorate. Any person can send suggestions and objections on the Act by October 31 by email.
