Rains once again become bane for Uttarakhand
Thousands of pilgrims reported to be stranded along the Char Dham route
Monsoon trigger landslides at many places
The monsoon made its presence felt in Uttarakhand especially in the high altitude regions of Uttarakhand. The heavy rains caused the swelling up of rivers flowing through these regions.
Landslides occurred near Badrinath highway, rambara, hanuman chatti due to which the Char Dham yatra has been suspended. Around 3000 people have been stopped at Badrinath. Pilgrimage for Hemkund Sahib has also been stopped. Two makeshift pulls along the highway were washed in the rains, leaving around 10000 people stranded along the route. Around 800 people are stuck in Kedarnath-Gaurikund area.
Government officials claim the Char Dham yatra to be safe and expected to re open the highways by Friday morning. Pilgrims stranded at Hemkund would be air lifted via helicopters on Friday. The government will be using 5 helicopters for this purpose. The government is on full alert, added the officials.
