Uttarakhand could become 1st Indian state to give pension to acid attack victims
Uttarakhand will become the first state in the country to provide pension to acid victims. According to Women Empowerment and Child Development Minister Rekha Arya, at present, there is no provision of pension to acid victims. The Women’s Empowerment Department has prepared a proposal for pension of seven to ten thousand rupees every month. This proposal will be put up in the upcoming cabinet meeting.
Minister Rekha Arya told that the women suffering from acid attack of Uttarakhand had met her some time back. These women said that they are being harassed socially and mentally. Since the acid attack, people are afraid to give them jobs in any government and private sector. This has worsened their financial condition.
The government should make some such arrangement that can strengthen their economic condition. She said that in view of this problem of women, a plan is being made to give pension to them. There are currently 11 such women in the state. It is proposed to give a pension of seven to ten thousand rupees to each victim woman every month. The grant of pension will help such women to a great extent.
It will be implemented only after its approval in the cabinet. She said that at present the pension is not being given to acid victims in any state. If it gets cabinet approval in Uttarakhand, then it will be the first state in the country to pay pension to acid victims.
