Cabinet gives nod to include NCERT books in Classes I-XII curriculum of Uttarakhand Board
The state Cabinet gave its consent for including books, prepared by the National Council of Education and Research Training (NCERT) from Classes I to XII, in the school curriculum of all the schools recognised by the Uttarakhand board.
The decision that will come into effect from the next academic year (2018-2019) is aimed at raising the standard of education imparted in all Uttarakhand-board run schools.
“While the NCERT-prepared books will be part of the school curriculum for students of Classes I to XII studying in the state board-recognised schools, a book dedicated to the state’s history would also be introduced for the board schools for students studying in Classes I-VIII,” said state government spokesperson and Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik.
The state Cabinet that met this evening also give its approval for filling 624 positions, including faculty, nursing staff, administrative staff and other posts in Government Soban Singh Jeena Medical College and Research Institute at Almora (Almora medical college).
“We are awaiting permission to start MBBS classes with 100 seats. For this reason the faculty positions have to be filled immediately,” said Kaushik.
The Cabinet also approved the setting up of state centre for public policy and good governance which would be set up in Dehradun.
“It would be headed by the Chief Minister and would also have other members and experts. The centre would basically give its views on development and other issues,” said Kaushik.
Significantly, during the tenure of the Congress government a policy planning group was also announced but it failed to take shape.
The Cabinet also gave its nod for an ordinance to bring amendment in the Uttarakhand Shops and Commercial Establishment Act, 1962. “For now, we have brought an ordinance to relax guidelines for disclosing a number of workers. We will soon table a Bill whenever the next Assembly session is held,” said Kaushik.
Further, the Cabinet also approved the expansion of the Rudrapur Municipal Corporation which has been reconstituted (boundaries expanded) with the inclusion of 12 villages.
