Work underway to develop Pithoragarh as apple belt
There is immense potential for apple production in Pithoragarh Border District. In view of this, now the Horticulture Department has intensified efforts to develop the high altitude areas as Apple Belt. The help of the apple growers of Uttarkashi is also being taken to prepare the Apple Belt.
Uttarkashi is the largest producer of apples in Uttarakhand. Due to the production of high quality apples, thousands of people have not only got employment but also given an identity to Uttarkashi. On the lines of Uttarkashi, now the exercise of developing Pithoragarh as an apple belt is intensifying. The apple growers of Uttarkashi are giving the modern technology of apple production to the farmers of Pithoragarh.
Selected artisans will be sent to Uttarkashi
According to the apple growers of Uttarkashi, the climate of Pithoragarh is favorable for apple production. Not only this, icy areas can easily grow A grade apples. In some areas of Pithoragarh, cultivators have also found success in growing apples through personal efforts. But now for the first time some movement is visible in this direction at the government level. The Horticulture Department is also planning to send selected apple growers to Uttarkashi. Pithoragarh District Horticulture Officer RS Verma said that so far negligible work has been done in the field of apple production in the district. But the efforts that are being made now show hope.
The scattered holding in the mountains is also a big problem
The scattered holding is the biggest obstacle in the way of large scale apple production in the mountains. In such a situation, it is necessary that the government machinery first has to find a solution to this problem. If this is possible, it is certain that in Pithoragarh, good quality apples will not only be produced, but people will also be able to get employment at their homes.
