Govt approves Rs 12 crore advance fund for International Winter Games at Auli

The budget deficit has started to ease in organizing the International Winter Games in Auli. The government has given permission to organize the event on a grand scale in accordance with the requirement by approving Rs 12 crore advance budget. The tourism department has claimed to complete all preparations on time after getting the supplementary budget.

Following the successful organizing of SAIF Games 2011, there is agreement on organizing International Winter Games in Auli. After the budget and other bottlenecks in the event, the Indian Olympic Association has issued the schedule for the International Winter Games to be held from January 14 to 21. After getting the hostel, the State Government has also ordered the Tourism Department to mobilize the necessary facilities in Auli.

For this, the tourism department has been asked to spend from the Advance Budget in the Auli to repair slopes, construction works, repair and installation of other machines including the Snow Making Machine, and the gathering of players involved in the Winter Games. Tourism Secretary Dilip Javalkar said that all preparations have been started in Auli.

In addition to experts, activities related to games and other activities are being done. Tourism, GMVN and the district are assembled in Chamoli with this coordination.

Snow Making Machine Contract

The Secretary of Tourism says that the French company has contract with the government to repair the poorly accumulated snow-making machine. About five crore rupees are being spent on this. If the snow does not fall, the machine will make artifical snow in Auli. Since 2011, due to non-maintenance of the machine, it is completely damaged.

Committee will be headed by DM

Chamoli’s DM has been instructed to set up committees for organizing International Winter Games in Auli. Tourism Secretary would be reviewing the work progress on December 9 and 10.

Winter Olympics will be selected

Participants participating in the International Winter Games in Auli will be selected for the Winter Olympic Games to be held in South Korea in 2018.

Events to be held at International Winter Games in Auli

There is ample possibility of world-class slopes and skiing games in Auli. In this case, in the senior, junior and open category, alpine skiing, biathlon bobsleigh, cross country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, Nordic Combined, short track speed skating games will be organized at the international level. Skating is going to be done in Doon.

  1. Auli is a very attractive tourist place in Joshimath. Journey by the highest and longest ropeway of the country passing by Nanda Devi,Drona etc peaks is a thrilling experience. Unfortunately, this is not known to many pilgrims and tourists. This is a very rare opportunity to promote tourism to Auli. Centre should make use of this occasion by allotting more funds.

Journey by the longest and highest aerial ropeway of the country viewing the snow bounded and noted peaks like Nanda Devi, Drona giri etc.is really a thrilling experience to tourists. Taking this opportunity, Govt should raise to the occasion by allotting more funds and providing facilities to attract the pilgrims passing through Joshimath and tourists as well
