Heavy snowfall predicted in Uttarakhand on Feb 5; red alert issued

There is no possibility of moderate weather conditions in Uttarakhand. According to the Meteorological Department, the rainfall and snowfall are likely to occur once again in the state from February 5. Especially, on February 6 and 7, there can be heavy snowfall and rains at up to 2000 meters in the mountainous areas of Garhwal and Kumaon. The department has issued a Red alert and advised that during this time people should avoid traveling to high altitude areas. At the same time, in Dehradun the weather today remained clear and sunny.

State Meteorological Center Director Bikram Singh said that due to the active western disturbance in the state, the weather conditions will change once again. He told that on 5th February there is possibility of rain and light snowfall in most areas, but the condition of the weather will worsen on February 6 and 7. During this time there is possibility of heavy snowfall and rains in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh.

Meanwhile, on Friday morning again there was snowfall in the Ganges and Yamuna valley in Auli, Gorso Bugyal, Chamoli district, including Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Power supply was disrupted in Kedarnath for nearly two weeks due to heavy snowfall.  Gangotri and Yamunotri highways are closed near Uttarkashi. In the villages covered with ice sheets, there is a thick blanket of snow on contact routes. This has made movement difficult for the villagers.

Traffic on 18 roads in the state is interrupted and 58 villages are isolated. At the same time, electricity has not been restored in 76 villages.
