PWD engineers fined Rs 29 lakh for improper road construction
29 lakhs will be collected from two engineers of Public Works Department on finding discrepancy in the construction of three roads of Haridwar district. The government also ordered to register an adverse entry on both the ACRs. Additional Secretary Pradeep Rawat ordered the recovery on Monday. According to the order, a total of 72 lakh rupees will be collected from Shrikant Sharma, the Executive Engineer stationed at PMGSY Srinagar and Superintending Engineer Sushil Kumar Gupta posted at ADB Dehradun, .
What is the case
Under the Dehradun Construction section of the department, a check was made on the complaint of Ruhalki-Sahadevpur-Piran Kaliyar, Mujahidpur-Shaktiwala and Raisi-Shahpur roads in Haridwar district and the repair work.
It was found in the investigation that due to negligence of engineers, this construction was done at a higher cost. This caused loss to the government. In this case, the then Executive Engineer of PWD Building Dehradun, Sushil Kumar Gupta and then Assistant Engineer Shrikant Sharma were found guilty. Now, Rs 13.38 lakh from Gupta and Rs 15. 6 lakh from Sharma will be recovered. In addition, it has also been decided to stop the adverse entry and increment of the engineers.
Chief Engineer gave clean chit
In this case due to the vigilance of the government, recovery from the culprits was realized. In fact, the department had earlier decided to conduct an inquiry at the Chief Engineer level. The chief engineer gave a clean chit to the two engineers after the investigation. When this report reached the government, it was decided to conduct a re-examination. This time both investigators were found guilty by PWD consultant RP Bhatt and Lalit Mohan.
PWD Chief Engineer transferred
Government has transferred the Chief Engineer Ayaz Ahmad, posted in PWD Tehri. He has now been given the post of Chief Engineer at PWD HQ. Ayaz was posted in Tehri for a long time. However, he has been given additional responsibility of the Chief Engineer in Tehri, with the deployment of Headquarters. It has been ordered by Additional Secretary PWD Pradeep Rawat. Several Chief Engineers of the Department have retired recently. After this Ayaz has been brought to the headquarters.
