Water crisis creeps in hills of Uttarakhand

After the fire in forests in the areas of Karnprayag, Adibadri, Gairsain and Tharali tehsils of Chamoli district, many drinking water sources have dried up. The condition is that people of Bhalson village are carrying water from Aatagad three km away. Due to lack of water, it takes several hours to fill the main drinking water tank. In such a situation, the rural water institutions are forced to fill the tanks and wells.

Despite being located at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Pindar river, all the people of the city of Karnprayag are not getting enough water. Locals said that water is supplied from Ghatgad spring, but waterlines are damaged or leaking from many places due to which residents of upper bazar and tehsil colony are not getting enough water. Water crisis has also been made in villages like Baskwali, Siroli, Sinkal, Kedarukal, etc. For the last one-and-a-half months, there has been an acute shortage of water for the villagers of Adibadari. Here in this village of 80 families water tanker has come only once in the past one and a half month. The villagers are tired of water from natural water sources from three km away. On Tuesday, they gave the complaint to the SDM. The villagers said that they have to go to the river Atagad for bathing and washing clothes.
