Global warming could raise sea levels by upto 20 feet by 2300

Scientists are concerned that if efforts to stop global warming are not accelerated the consequences will be disastrous. A new study says that the sea coastline is moving towards land as the temperature increases. By the end of the 21st century, sea level will rise to 1.1 meters. If carbon emissions that increase the temperature of the earth were not curbed, by 2300, the sea level would rise by 20 feet. When compared to the environment before industrialization, the temperature of the earth has increased by 2 ° C.

According to The Guardian, the research also says that if the terms of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement are implemented immediately, the first result will take 15 years to come. Researchers say that all countries will have to promise to reduce emissions by 2030 and stop the emission of any type of gases that heat the earth. The truth is that very few countries have followed the terms of the Paris Agreement.

‘Lifestyle is spoiling the earth’

Oregon State University climate scientist and study co-author Peter Clarke says, “Even after the Paris Agreement, governments are doing nothing to save the earth.” If the temperature of the earth increases, the level of the sea level will rise. Now the problem of rising sea level is going to happen for centuries. We will have to take drastic decisions soon. “

Clarke also says that we are moving towards an expensive lifestyle. The world is spending billions of dollars for this. But the earth has to bear its brunt. Rising sea level is a long process. We are cooling our homes, but raising the temperature outside. This heat is responsible for raising the sea level.

Computer models used to assess sea level

Researchers used a computer model to assess rising sea levels. With its help, the emissions from 1750 were estimated. It also observed that if all countries follow the Paris Agreement, what will be the emission scenario between 2015 and 2030? Researchers have blamed tAmerica, China, India, Russia and the European Union for increasing the water level to half of the 20 cm level. The United States had a major role in drafting the Paris Agreement, but Donald Trump had announced his exit.

Alexander Knowles, lead author of climate analytics and research, said, “Our research results reflect what we are currently doing and what will be the impact in the year 2300? 20 cm is very important. This is similar to the rise in sea level. As we have seen in the 20th century. But it is amazing that this target will be achieved with 15 years of emissions. ”

The study showed that it would be challenging for all countries to prevent sea level rise. Different countries will have to invest heavily to save the infrastructure near the sea. There are already many challenges in coastal cities around the world. Recent research has shown that if there is no significant reduction in carbon emissions, then in 2050, every year 30 million people will be flooded. The warming of the Earth will cause the glaciers and the ice of both polar regions to melt and this will increase the sea level.

According to the UN Climate Science Panel, global sea level rise could reach 1.1 meters by the end of the century if emissions are not banned. The study’s co-author Peter Clarke said that if the melting of Antarctica continues at the same uncertain rate, the real world situation may become even more dangerous.

Paris Climate Agreement of 2015

The agreement states that poor and rich countries need to take action to deal with climate change responsible for melting glaciers, rising sea levels. Under this, countries that emit more carbon and greenhouse gases were required to control their emissions. At the same time, developing countries had to provide financial support and infrastructure to become low carbon emitters from the beginning. The Paris Agreement was accepted in December 2015 by 195 countries of the world.
