Tehri dam reaches 830m level; electricity production to be boosted

A major achievement has been recorded in the account of the lake of Asia’s largest Tehri Dam. The water level of the lake spread over 42 square kilometers has reached 830 RL meters. The officials of THDC (Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Limited) are happy with the rise in the water level of the lake. THDC officials said that this is a big achievement for us. Executive Director, THDC said that after the formation of Tehri Lake, it has been filled for the first time till 830 rl meter. Permission has been taken from the state government for this. Officials said that earlier in the year 2010, due to heavy rains, the water level of the lake had increased to 830 meters, but this time the water level of the lake has been duly raised to 830 RL meters. This will increase power generation from Tehri dam and revenue will also come more.

By filling 830 RL meters of water in Tehri Lake, an additional 16 to 15 million units of electricity can be generated in a year. Due to which about 30 to 40 lakh additional revenue will be available per day. During the disaster of 2010 and 2013, there was heavy water in Bhagirathi and Bhilangana rivers. This water was stopped due to Tehri Dam. If this was not done then there would have been terrible destruction in the towns like Devprayag, Rishikesh, Haridwar etc. At that time everyone was safe due to Tehri Dam. The faces of THDC officials have blossomed due to the rise in water in Tehri Dam, but the people of the villages situated on the banks of the lake have lost their sleep. They say that that their houses and roads have started developing cracks due to the additional pressure exerted by the increased water volume.
