Snowfall in upper regions of Pithoragarh breaks 10 year record

The Darma and Beas valley of Dharchula in Pithoragarh are also covered with snow. Locals told that this opportunity of snowfall in the area in April has come after the year 2012. This is the first time in the last ten years that snow is falling in the region in April. It snowed heavily on Wednesday night. There has been 6 inches of snowfall in the valley. Apart from this, rain and thundershower have also occurred in different parts of the district. This has given relief to the people from the heat. Snowfall in the midst of scorching heat is good for the region. This will give life to water sources and rivers. On the previous day, there was light rain and thundershowers in various parts including Kanalichina, Didihat, Berinag, Gangolihat.

Normal life was disrupted due to strong winds accompanied by thunder. There was hailstorm in Munsiyari. The rain has given a big relief to the common people as well as the forest department. Due to increasing heat, the forests of Uttarakhand were blazing. Due to rain on Thursday, forest fires were extinguished at many places in Pithoragarh district. The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain in the hilly areas today. The weather will remain dry in the plains. Due to the active western disturbance in the state, the clouds are hovering for the last three days. The skies are clear and sunny in most places in the plains, but there have been several spells of rain and hailstorms accompanied by strong winds in the mountains.
