Rare wildlife including snow leopard spotted in Pithoragarh’s Darma valley

Snow leopard also known as Ghost of the mountains has been caught on camera for the first time in the Darma valley of the Darma, Beas, Chaudas (DBC) landscape on the Indo-China border. There is a wave of happiness among the team members of The Mountain Ride due to the sighting of snow leopards and other wild animals in the villages at an altitude of 8-10 thousand feet in the Darma Valley.

The presence of the rare Snow Leopard, Red Fox, Himalayan Thar, Blue Sheep among others was said from time to time in the high Himalayan region of Dharchula but there was no proof. The team of The Mountain Ride’s team leader Jayendra Singh Firmal, Dinesh Bangyal and Somi Singh has been searching for snow leopards and other rare wildlife in the high Himalayan villages of Darma Valley for the past six years.

Under this plan, this team went to Darma Valley last week. During this the team traveled about 35 kilometers on foot. The team sighted snow leopards on February 4 and 5 at 5 pm. The team members mustered up courage and took photos from a distance of about 20 meters with their cameras and also made videos of the elusive animal.
