Devotees, administration face weather challenge at Kedarnath

With the opening of the doors of Char Dham Yatra 2023, a huge crowd of devotees has gathered to visit the sacred places. Devotees from many states of the country including UP, Delhi-NCR, MP, Rajasthan are reaching Uttarakhand for Char Dham. But the weather in Uttarakhand is also trying to test the devotees. Administration & Devotees are facing difficulties due to inclement weather in Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.

Now after 11:30 am from Sonprayag, devotees will not be sent to Kedarnath on foot. Whereas those traveling from Gaurikund will not be allowed to go beyond one o’clock in the afternoon. In view of the rain and snowfall in Kedarnath, the administration has taken this decision for the time being.

On the other hand, four thousand pilgrims who were stopped on Thursday and a total of 13,429 pilgrims who reached here on Friday morning were sent to Kedarnath Dham from Sonprayag at five in the morning. After this only those devotees were left for Gaurikund whose rooms are booked. On the other hand, there was snowfall in Dham on Friday for half an hour.

Since March 16, the weather is changing every moment in Kedarnath and it is snowing. Compared to winter, there has been maximum snowfall in the last one and a half month. Due to the deteriorating weather day by day, problems are also being faced in the smooth conduct of the Kedarnath Yatra which started from April 25. The weather in Dham was fine since morning on Friday but after 11 am it started becoming cloudy and there was snowfall which continued for about half an hour.

Rudraprayag DM Mayur Dixit appealed to the devotees coming to visit Kedarnath Dham and said that keeping in mind the continuous snowfall in Kedarnath Dham, travel only after taking information about the weather. DM Mayur Dixit and Superintendent of Police Visakha Bhadane urged the pilgrims coming to Kedarnath Dham to start their journey according to the weather forecast.
