10 dead due to electrocution at project site in Chamoli

A major accident took place in Chamoli, Uttarakhand on Wednesday morning. Sudden current spread at the site of Namami Gange project on the banks of river Alaknanda near Chamoli market. 10 people have reportedly died in the tragic accident. Many people are badly burnt. 11 people have sustained burn injuries. Out of which six people have been sent to AIIMS Rishikesh. There, five people are admitted in the district hospital.

According to the information, work is going on at the site of Namami Gange project in Chamoli. At the time of the accident on Wednesday, 24 people were present at the site.

It is being told that this accident happened due to running of current in the wires of the meter. According to Amit Saxena, executive engineer of Chamoli’s Energy Corporation, the third phase of electricity was down last night. The third phase was connected on Wednesday morning, after which current ran in the sewage treatment plant premises. LT and ST wires are not broken anywhere from transformer to meter.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has given instructions to provide relief amount of Rs five lakh each to the dependents of the deceased and Rs one lakh each to the injured without any delay in the Chamoli incident.
