Hyundai launches Exter in India, to compete with Tata Punch

Hyundai Exter has been officially launched in the Indian market on Monday. The initial ex-showroom price of the base variant of Hyundai Exter has been fixed at Rs 5.99 lakh. At the same time, the price of its top variant goes up to 9.31 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Hyundai Exter SUV is the smallest of all Hyundai SUVs in the Indian market and has become the cheapest car from the brand in this body type.

Will compete in the segment

The Hyundai Exter SUV is making some pretty big promises in a segment that is currently dominated by the Tata Punch and also has the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. While the Hyundai Venue and Creta have been stellar performers in their segments, Hyundai is pinning its hopes on the Exter to complete a strong trio of SUV models.

Entry into new segment

The Hyundai Exter is an entry into a new segment for Hyundai as the automaker aims to once again gain a strong foothold in the sub Rs 10 lakh segment. This will be the automaker’s third hatchback in the segment after the Grand i10 Nios and the i20. Models like Eon and Santro were discontinued in recent years. With the growing popularity of the SUV body style, the Exter aims to offer a compact SUV to young buyers.

Exter Variants and Booking

The new Hyundai Xtor comes in 5 variants – EX, S, SX, SX(O) and SX(O) Connect. The Korean carmaker has announced that they have already received over 11,000 bookings for the SUV, of which 38 per cent are for the AMT version. The bookings for the factory-fitted CNG variant stand at 20 per cent.

Look and Design

In terms of looks and design, the Hyundai Extor comes with an H-shaped LED treatment for the DRLs and tail lamps. The car also gets flared wheel arches, 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, front and rear faux skid plates, roof rails and thick body cladding all around.

Interior & Features

Talking about the interiors, the Exter comes with an all-black cabin, a digital instrument cluster, semi-leatherette seat upholstery, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voice-activated commands in multiple languages and OTA updates comes The SUV also gets wireless charging, factory-fitted dashcam and keyless entry. Safety features include ESC, hill assist control, ABS with EBD, 6 airbags, seatbelt reminder for all seats, ISOFIX and rear parking sensors and cameras.

Engine & Power

Powering the new Hyundai Exter is a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that generates 83 Bhp and 114 Nm when running on petrol. With CNG, the power is reduced to 69 bhp and 95.2 Nm. The petrol version of the SUV comes with the option of a 5-speed manual gearbox or an AMT. While the manual transmission is available as standard in the CNG variant. The AMT version also gets paddle shifters.
