Know about Phool Dei Festival of Uttarakhand

The Phool Dei festival is celebrated every year in the mountain on the Sankranti of Chaitra month. This year the festival is starting on 14th March.

Flowers have a special place in the folk life and culture of Uttarakhand. To celebrate the festival of Phool Dei, children pluck Phyoli, Buransh flowers and Payan leaves in the evening and fill them in their baskets. After this, the children get up in Brahma Muhurta and together go from door to door and put flowers on the doors of all the houses. Along with putting flowers, children also sing melodious folk songs.

In the rural areas of Rudraprayag, children are seen singing spring songs and placing flowers on the doorsteps of monasteries, temples and houses early in the morning. Children follow this process daily for eight days. Every morning in the villages, children sing the local folklore songs and also put flowers on the doorstep of the houses and also do the work of waking up the villagers.

At many places, instead of carrying the idols of deity, the idol made on stones is worshiped. This is a unique tradition of the mountains and is considered to be a favorite festival of children.
