Monsoon gathers pace in the state; ‘Orange Alert’ issued for heavy rain in five districts, including Dehradun
The monsoon has gained momentum in Uttarakhand. An ‘orange alert’ for heavy rainfall has been issued for five districts of the state for Thursday, July 02. Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected in the remaining districts.
According to the Meteorological Department, isolated areas in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, and Bageshwar districts may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall; an orange alert has been issued for these districts. Additionally, heavy rain is likely in isolated areas of Haridwar, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli districts.
Furthermore, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are forecast for isolated locations in the state’s mountainous regions. There is also a likelihood of thunderstorms and lightning strikes in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts.
The Meteorological Department has advised the public—particularly residents of mountainous areas and travelers—to remain alert. People have been urged to avoid unnecessary movement in landslide-prone areas during heavy rainfall and to exercise caution near rivers and streams.
